More 'commercial' agate links.

Welcome to the homepage of Robert M.B. de Jager. I'm collecting agates and jaspers for almost 30 years now.
I collect most of the agates and jaspers in Germany near Idar-Oberstein and Alzey.
Idar-Oberstein and Alzey show rocks from a 260 million years old time period called the 'Rotliegend'.

These rocks are volcanic and where these rocks come to the surface in quarries and on the fields one can find nice agates and jaspers.

After that I cut and polish them at home and put them in my cabinet. I'll try on this website to show my most beautiful agates, but it's possible to fill up more websites with agate pictures.

Besides on my own homepage one can admire my agates on The Agate Page (http://csd.unl.edu/agates/agatepage.asp), listed under Germany, England, Netherlands, Namibia and the Czech Rep.

For me, the most beautiful type of agate are the so called 'pseudomorphic agates'. This is a type of agate where the original minerals are replaced by agate (SiO2).But it would be better to not even use specific terms when you simply don't know what the inclusions are. Call them by more truly descriptive terms: "Sprays" and "pincushions" and "reticulated frameworks." These terms describe the inclusions without trying to hang a mineral name on them.

I have several sorts of agates and jaspers availabe for swap from Germany and other countries.






Welkom op de 'homepage' van Rob de Jager. Ik verzamel al bijna 25 jaar agaten en jaspis-soorten.

Het verzamelen van de agaten en de verschillende jaspis-soorten doe ik hoofdzakelijk in Duitsland in de omgeving van Idar-Oberstein en Alzey.

Bij Idar-Oberstein en Alzey komen vulkanische gesteenten tevoorschijn uit het 'Rotliegend' in 260 miljoen jaar oude gesteenten.

Men kan deze gesteenten vinden in groeves en op akkers en dit zijn dus de aangewezen plaatsen om agaten en jaspis-soorten te vinden.
Daarna zaag en polijst ik de agaten thuis en leg ze naderhand in mijn vitrine.

Ik probeer op deze 'webpage' mijn mooiste exemplaren te laten zien, maar uiteraard is het niet mogelijk alle agaten op deze 'site' te zetten.

Behalve op mijn eigen 'homepage' zijn mijn agaten ook te bewonderen op The Agate Page (http://csd.unl.edu/csd/programs/agates/framegem.htm) onder 'Germany', 'England', 'Netherlands', 'Namibia' en de 'Czech Rep'.

Het mooiste type agaat die ik verzamel zijn de zogenaamde pseudomorphosen. Dit is een type agaat waarbij de oorspronkelijke mineralen door agaat (SiO2) is vervangen.

Ik heb diverse agaten en jaspis-soorten die ik zou willen ruilen, ondermeer uit Duitsland en andere landen.
